Our company is now called Murray Artisan Drums... We decided to call our Cajon.... 'mad1'... A bit of humour can't hurt and M.A.D. are the initials of the company. Number one, because we're the best!

Made from only the finest materials mad1 brings a meeting of sound and playability. The unique sound is created by using only the finest birch, a traditional tone wood, used extensively in acoustic guitar and acoustic musical instrument manufacture. Hand made with uncompromising craftsmanship. Although light weight, (7 Kg), mad1 is incredibly strong, more than capable of standing up to the ware and tare of life on the road.
Drawing from a long history of drum and guitar making mad1 delivers a range of tones and expression which simply has to be experienced to be appreciated.
The snare,... is a genuine 7 inch, 12 strand, wire snare, along with natural goatskin drum-heads, giving the performer a crisp sharp snare with extra touch sensitivity and response.
The base drum,... has a 12 " drum shell incorporated into the design, boosting the base tones and creating a deep warm, fat sound. Again, with that extra touch sensitivity and response provided by the leather drum-heads.
Each drum,... can be removed and played independently, on it's own. The snare drum can be removed and played as a small hand drum. The base drum can be removed and played as a 12inch, Bodhran.... Although small, in competent hands it will deliver the tradition sound that players love.
